Top issues during term (6)(Business Jobs)
Downtown Parking Management
Most ideas are cheap — paint and a few signs — but enforcement would require adding duties to existing staff.
Monmouth-Independence Trolley Agreement and Commissions Ordinance
Operating costs are a challenge; the 30-minute service option could roughly halve costs.
New steel fabrication employer at former Forest River site
Industrial growth could eventually relieve pressure on the general fund, but a major project realistically takes 2+ years to open plus 3–5 years of tax exemption — no quick fix.
Downtown food truck rules reworked — cap dropped
A new ordinance could mean new permitting and enforcement costs, though councilors worried mainly about staff time to enforce truck caps.
Child care training program success
The program was funded by a $136,000 Community Development Block Grant.
Heritage Museum Society liaison
The Society's fundraising supports museum operations, though no specific dollar figure was attached this meeting.
